A New Match for Migraines

(RxWiki News) The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new medication to prevent migraines.

It’s called Aimovig (erenumab-aooe). The FDA approved this treatment, available as a monthly injection, to prevent migraines in adults. Aimovig is a new type of medication and the first of its kind.

This medication helps prevent migraines by blocking the calcitonin gene-related peptide, which is a molecule involved in migraine attacks.

Migraines affect about 10 percent of people across the globe, according to the FDA.

Those who have migraines tend to have recurring attacks, which are triggered by lack of food or sleep, stress, hormonal changes, bright or flashing lights and diet.

Common side effects of erenumab-aooe included injection-site reactions and constipation.
