Medicare Open Enrollment 2021: Oct. 15 to Dec. 7

(RxWiki News) Medicare Open Enrollment started on Oct. 15 and will run until Dec. 7. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is offering some tips for enrolling this year.

Until Dec. 7, 2020, you can enroll in Medicare drug and medical plans for 2021. Here are some tips from the CMS:

Check the Mail

During Open Enrollment, you may receive some important pieces of mail related to your Medicare coverage. For example, those who are currently enrolled in a plan will receive an Annual Notice of Changes. This document describes any changes to your coverage and provides information about payment help with prescription drugs.

Insurance companies that offer Medicare plans may also send you information and marketing materials for particular plans. The Medicare.gov blog pointed out that no one is allowed to come to your home or call you to try to sell you a Medicare plan unless you have invited them.

Read Your Handbook

Take a look at your Medicare & You handbook for 2021 (available online here). This handbook provides detailed information about plans and coverage in your local area.

Consider Your Coverage Needs

Has anything changed for you and your health care needs this year? Take some time to consider this question. If you have different coverage requirements, now is the time to make changes to your Medicare plan.

If, however, you are satisfied with your coverage and your plan is still available for next year, you don’t have to do anything during Open Enrollment.
