Company Under Fire for Violating Tobacco Rules

(RxWiki News) The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to an Arizona-based company for violating tobacco rules.

The company is Smart Toothpicks LLC. The FDA accused the company of several violations, including illegal sales.

The company’s alleged violations include the following:

• Selling its products to a minor through its website
• Selling unauthorized modified-risk tobacco items
• Not including the required nicotine warnings on packaging and advertisements

Smart Toothpicks sells dissolvable tobacco products, such as Peppermint Ice Nicotine Toothpicks.

“The FDA has made it clear, we will not tolerate violations of federal tobacco regulations designed to protect the American public — especially underage tobacco sales to youth,” said FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen M. Hahn in a press release. “In this case, the FDA was prompted to take action because Smart Toothpicks LLC ignored the laws.”

The agency required Smart Toothpicks to return a written response within 15 working days with details about how the company will correct these violations and remain compliant with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
