FDA: Rompe Pecho Cough Syrup a No-Go

(RxWiki News) With flu season here, you’ll want to be careful about selecting a cough syrup, according to a warning from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA is warning consumers about a risk of contamination with certain cough syrups. These products are found under the names Rompe Pecho EX and Rompe Pecho CF. These cough syrups are made by Efficient Laboratories, Inc.

The FDA stated that these cough products can cause harm in patients due to a risk of microbial contamination. In fact, the FDA recommended that the manufacturer recall these cough syrups.

These are over-the-counter medicines approved for use in children who are 6 years old or older.

The FDA recommended that people stop using these cough medicines and properly dispose of them.

As of publishing time, the FDA had not received any reports of side effects related to these cough syrups. However, the agency recommended that consumers:

1. Seek medical attention if they have used these cough syrups and are concerned or notice any side effects
2. Report side effects related to any medications, including Rompe Pecho EX and Rompe Pecho CF, to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program
